SYNOPSIS:
The hit reality weight-loss competition show GUTS is back with its BIGGEST! SEASON! EVER! There will be grueling challenges, verbal abuses, and – of course – the fan-favorite weekly weigh-ins. But behind the camera rivalries are forming, romances are blossoming, and friendships are being found in the most unlikely of places. Can these six contestants find self-love, communal healing, and liberation in a place designed to make them hate themselves and their bodies? Do they have the guts?
SEEKING THE FOLLOWING:
DARLA – Woman, 26. Fat/Plus-size. Any race. Kind Hearted but fiercely competitive. A natural leader.
JULIA – Woman, 29. Thin, athletic. Any race. The host of Guts. Mean, hard, and righteous.
TOMMY – Man, 31. Fat/Plus-size. Any race. A class clown type, but hiding a deep vulnerability underneath.
TAM – Girl, 17. Fat/Plus-size. Any race. A dancer and great at it. Coming of age while obsessed with her own mortality.
STAR – Non-binary, 19. Fat/Plus-size. Any race. Aloof, quiet, a total stoner. A bit of an asshole with a good heart.
LAURIE – Woman, 22. Fat/Plus-size. Any race. Bubbly, fun, confident, and – above all else – flirty. Deserves her own TV show.
JANE – Woman, 55. Fat/Plus-size. Any race. A mother, set in her ways but willing to learn. In need of a confidence boost.
JACOB – Boy, 18. Fat/Plus-size. Any race. Cameraman on Guts. A total dork who’s trying to hide it. Just wants to do the right thing.
* Ages of the characters above are relative – what is most important is that the ensemble represents a variety of ages relative to one another. If you feel compelled by a character but are unsure about the age, please audition!
** This play contains some onstage intimacy between Darla/Julia, Darla/Laurie, Tommy/Laurie, and Tam/Jacob.
*** The genders listed indicate the gender of the character, not the actor portraying them. Folks of all genders are encouraged to submit for the roles that interest them, with the exception of STAR, for whom we ask only non-binary or GNC folks to submit.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION:
At Moonbox, we believe that the stories we tell are important. They sustain and preserve our community, our history, and our values. Telling racially diverse stories allows us not only to reflect – but also to reflect on – the complexities of our past. When we join together in the act of storytelling, we are united in ways that transcend the everyday. Together, we can use the power of storytelling to honor our commonalities, celebrate our differences, and address historical discrimination and injustice. We pledge to take this power seriously, and to use our voices and the stories we tell to dismantle the systemic racism and white supremacy engulfing our culture, our country, and our industry .We believe in creating spaces that reflect the diversity of our shared community, both on and off the stage, where under-represented voices, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and people living with disabilities feel valued and important. We believe that accessibility is a human right. We are devoted to providing performances and work spaces that can be experienced and enjoyed universally, and to incorporating accessibility planning into our production, design, staffing, and budgeting processes from day one.
