SYNOPSIS:
In 1973 Boston, Teresa is working overtime as a journalist and trying to make ends meet, while volunteering with burgeoning newspaper, Gay Community News. When violence permeates the Boston queer community, Teresa’s activism and personal life converge and her relationships are thrown into disarray. She and her community must find a way forward. Inspired by true stories from the first three months of Gay Community News, and the queer Boston writers who shared them.
SEEKING THE FOLLOWING:
TERESA- A Lesbian in her late 20s-30s, white. Fierce, passionate, driven, and stringent in her values. This character is a cisgender woman, but can be played by a trans or nonbinary actor.
ERIC- A gay man in his late 20s-early 30s, any race. Romantic, hopeful, and visionary. This character is a cisgender man, but can be played by a trans or nonbinary actor.
CHRISTOPHER- A gay man in his late 20s-early 30s, any race. Eric’s partner. Practical, a realist. This character is a cisgender man, but can be played by a trans or nonbinary actor.
DEBRA- A very straight woman in her late 20s-early 30s, white. Teresa’s childhood friend. WASP. Loving her life as a housewife, but clinging to the good old days. This character is a cisgender woman, but can be played by a trans or nonbinary actor. Most queerphobic rhetoric in the play that comes from a character comes from Debra.
The most important part of this casting process, for us, is to gather a group of people together who have care and interest in this slice of local queer history, and who are excited to workshop this new play! We welcome your artistry AND your critical thoughts, questions, and contributions to this story.
This will be a COVID-conscious process.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION:
At Moonbox, we believe that the stories we tell are important. They sustain and preserve our community, our history, and our values. Telling racially diverse stories allows us not only to reflect – but also to reflect on – the complexities of our past. When we join together in the act of storytelling, we are united in ways that transcend the everyday. Together, we can use the power of storytelling to honor our commonalities, celebrate our differences, and address historical discrimination and injustice. We pledge to take this power seriously, and to use our voices and the stories we tell to dismantle the systemic racism and white supremacy engulfing our culture, our country, and our industry .We believe in creating spaces that reflect the diversity of our shared community, both on and off the stage, where under-represented voices, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and people living with disabilities feel valued and important. We believe that accessibility is a human right. We are devoted to providing performances and work spaces that can be experienced and enjoyed universally, and to incorporating accessibility planning into our production, design, staffing, and budgeting processes from day one.
